Start in the dedicated trailhead lot
Use the Mavell Road trailhead at 4573 Mavell Road, Smyrna, GA 30082. Follow the trailhead signs to the end of Mavell Road, beside the school and ballfield. Choose the dedicated trailhead parking beside the bicycle path; do not use the school's lots, nearby residential spaces or an East-West Connector business lot as substitutes. The county identifies this as a public trailhead with parking and restrooms. County trailheads, County visitor map
A space toward the western end, near the restroom building, gives a short arrival to the main-trail junction. Walk your bicycle through the parking aisle and paved connection, watching for reversing cars and other users. Read the current signs before unloading. The trailhead reference is not a reserved space, a surveyed stall or permission to park overnight.
Ride west to the locator point
At the main-trail junction, follow the Silver Comet west, away from the connector heading east toward Atlanta. Stay on the broad paved rail-trail through the wooded corridor. Keep right, signal before passing and leave room for walkers. This short selection stays beside the rail corridor rather than using East-West Connector or residential streets.
Turn near the emergency locator identified in the county's map as 29014753, or 2901 / 4753 in two four-digit groups. This is an emergency-location identifier, not a milepost. Check the linked county map before setting out and use the numbers to distinguish this point from other markers. Do not guess a marker from its sequence or assume every gap is a quarter mile. Slow early, stop clear of moving users and turn only when you have room. If the locator is missing, unreadable or crowded, make an earlier clear turnaround rather than extending the outing. Return on the same main trail, then walk the parking connection back to your car. Fontaine Road, Heritage Park's natural walking trails and the longer western corridor are outside this short ride.
The approximate distance comes from the county's published main-trail line between the Mavell junction and that locator. It is a planning estimate, not a surveyed car-to-car distance. Your walk from the parking space is additional and unmeasured.
Terrain and timing
PATH describes the Silver Comet as a 12-foot-wide trail with a flat grade. Expect a gentle rail-trail outing, while checking pavement joints, edges, debris and any short transitions for yourself. This description does not establish a measured maximum slope or current accessibility. The parking aisle remains a vehicle interface even though the selected main path is separated from ordinary road traffic. PATH trail description
Use daylight hours, as the county requires, and return well before dark. Trail use is free according to Cobb's official visitor listing; the exact current parking tariff was not established, so obey the lot's signs. PATH prohibits overnight parking at its Silver Comet trailheads. Bring water and do not depend on restrooms being open. Official visitor listing, PATH parking guidance
Keep pets leashed, stay off neighboring property and obey all crossing and maintenance signs. This guide covers ordinary pedal bicycles. Electric-cycle users should confirm the county's applicable rules rather than transfer a general PATH policy to every jurisdiction.
Editorial draft checked October 16, 2026. The locator record was refreshed, and the public lot and course were reviewed on maps; imagery is not an on-site inspection. Recheck the county's latest notices, current parking and marker signs, and the actual pavement before publication or riding. No surveyed parking pin or navigation track is supplied.
