Start: Abshire Park public trailhead, Abshire Park, 1302 East Lincoln Avenue, Goshen, IN. Use designated public parking at the developed north end of Abshire Park and walk to the signed main Pumpkinvine. Coalition directions place the park on the right after travelling east on Lincoln beyond the railroad. Cabin rental fees do not establish a bicycle parking charge.
Ride: At the main trail take the signed Middlebury / Shipshewana direction, the coalition’s right turn from the trailhead. Turn after two outward miles or before the first road, work barrier or unsuitable surface; retrace. Omit downtown Maple City street connections and the Middlebury mile 8.5–11 maintenance reach.
Distance: Chosen four-mile maximum return from Abshire’s mile-zero trailhead. The 25-mile connected network is not this outing.
Permission and effort: Coalition expressly permits riding on the asphalt trails and names Abshire public parking. Expect a rolling former railway outing with local rises and approaches. No source establishes a maximum gradient for this short course. Use a short turnaround and walk an uncomfortable rise; the separate park sledding hill is not part of the ride.
Planning: Sunrise–sunset. No current ordinary parking or trail tariff established; posted terms govern. Trail maximum 15 mph, pedestrian priority, pets on six-foot leashes. Stop for crossing traffic. Remain on the main trail rather than park nature paths.
Access reviewed October 20, 2026 Central (October 21 UTC): Retained October 8–11 Middlebury sealcoating notice had weather-delay qualifications. Its dates alone do not reopen mile 8.5–11; this outing stays near Abshire, well short of that reach. Current coalition access page retains Abshire; today’s barriers, tree debris and surface still govern.
Bring water and choose suitable weather. Parking walking is extra. No surveyed parking-space pin or navigable GPX is supplied.
