Playa del Rey / Los Angeles, California · Up to 2 miles out and back · Paved coastal bicycle path
Start: Dockweiler Imperial Highway public day-use parking, Imperial Highway & Vista del Mar, Playa del Rey, CA. Current county beach profile identifies public parking and bike-path access. Its parking directory identifies the Imperial Highway lot, and the coastal map shows beach parking by the path. Use designated public day-use spaces, then walk to the coastal bicycle pavement; RV camping spaces and the upper Youth Center lot are separate.
Ride: Head south on the paved Marvin Braude beach bicycle path toward El Segundo, with the ocean on your right. Turn after one outward mile or before a public-road crossing, barrier, path end or uncomfortable section, whichever comes first, and retrace. Walk lot connections and pedestrian crossings. Distance: Chosen maximum two-mile return, plus parking walking. Not the 22-mile regional corridor or 3.7 miles of Dockweiler ocean frontage doubled. No exact stall-to-turn measurement is supplied.
Permission and effort: County beach manager expressly welcomes cycling and identifies the Marvin Braude as a paved bicycle path. Visit California’s interview recommends the beach bicycle course as flat and easy for beginners. That is qualitative advice about the coastal path, not every bluff access ramp; walk the parking connection and shorten for wind or loose sand.
Planning: Use daylight within current posted day-use lot hours. The retained parking directory lists Imperial lot 6 a.m.–10 p.m.; obey newer signs and return before any earlier gate closure. Public beach parking is paid. The linked county directory has seasonal/time-dependent rates and an old upload path, so no exact 2026 Imperial price is promised; pay the current posted amount. RV and venue rentals are separate. Yield at pedestrian crossings, announce passes and stay on the designated bicycle path. Wear a helmet; required under 18. No ordinary e-bike class finding is made for this selected section. Expect aircraft noise near LAX and bring water.
Access: Reviewed October 20, 2026: county beach and bike-path descriptions support the existing coastal route. The current dune demonstration proposal says construction may begin as early as 2027; it is not an already closed or completed project. July 4 marina night controls are separate past event scope. The protected Public Works closure source was not re-requested or bypassed, so no fresh complete closure-feed clearance is claimed. Signs, sand and storm debris govern.
Choose comfortable weather, bring water and check current signs before setting out. No parking-space pin, surveyed route or GPX is supplied.
