Morris Township, New Jersey · About 0.8 mile return · Paved path with a bridge · Ordinary pedal bicycle
This short Loantaka outing begins beside the South Street ballfields, follows the designated Yellow path into the woods and returns near the first brook bridge. It offers a modest distance and a straightforward way back to the same parking area. The current county profile describes the greenway as flat and suitable for cycling.
Stay on the designated paved bicycle path. Other branches in the reservation allow horses or walkers but prohibit bicycles, and the almost ten-mile park network is a much larger undertaking than this selected return.
Park beside the South Street ballfields
Use the South Street recreation-area parking lot at 468 South Street, beside the two ballfields. This is the recreation-area lot south of the separate Seaton Hackney Stables entrance. Check the current parking signs and choose a designated public space.
Walk your bicycle west through the parking area toward the Yellow path's 0.0 reference near South Street, shown in inset 1 of the county map. Stay inside the park; you do not need to cross South Street. The approach includes parking aisles and moving vehicles. A protected walk from every space and an exact stall-to-path distance have not been established.
The owner lists sunrise-to-sunset park hours. Ordinary trail or parking charges have not been confirmed. The bike-share rental price and shelter or sports-field reservation fees are separate services and do not establish an entry or parking tariff.
Follow Yellow south, then into the woods
From the western end of the lot, follow the designated paved Yellow path south along the west side of the ballfields, keeping the fields on your left. Continue around their southern edge, past the map's Yellow 0.2 reference.
Stay on Yellow as it turns east into the woods. Continue across the first brook bridge if it is open and comfortable for you, then turn near the map's Yellow 0.4 reference, clear of the bridge, junctions and through traffic. Turn earlier if there is no suitable space or a surface transition makes you uncomfortable.
Return along the same path around the south and west sides of the fields. Dismount near the parking area and walk back through the aisles to your vehicle. This guide uses an out-and-back; it does not use the other side of the ballfield loop as a shortcut or continue to Kitchell Pond.
No public street crossing is selected on the main ride. Shared path junctions and the parking approach still require attention. Do not follow an unpaved horse branch, a foot-only path or an unsigned shortcut around a restriction.
Distance, terrain and shared use
Plan for about 0.8 mile on the main return, using the county map's Yellow 0.0-to-0.4 references twice. The parking walk is extra and unmeasured. The mapped points are planning references; their physical signs have not been inspected. No surveyed start point or navigation track is supplied.
The April 2026 map marks the selected path as paved and permitted for bicycles and foot traffic. It also shows the short bridge interface. Current pavement defects, bridge transitions and clear widths have not been inspected. The county's flat-terrain description is qualitative; it is not a measured maximum grade or accessibility certificate.
Keep right, pass on the left after an audible warning and yield to walkers. Ride at a speed that leaves room to stop for children, dogs and other users. The county requires bicycles to be walked across roads wherever a different outing includes one. This draft covers ordinary pedal bicycles.
Current access and publication checks
The linked trail map was updated in April 2026. The current August 2026 hunting-area map shows no huntable parkland north of Kitchell Road, where this short outing remains. That is a mapped operating boundary, not a permanent guarantee about future arrangements. Follow current parking-area notices and any temporary closure signs.
Before publication, freshly check the public parking terms, Yellow-path signs, bridge clearance, pavement and work notices. The source and aerial reviews do not establish that the course is clear today. Bring drinking water; listed restrooms and other amenities may not be available when you arrive.
