Start at Huntington State Beach day-use Lot 1. Huntington State Beach Parking Lot 1, Huntington Beach, CA Use the designated day-use spaces and paved trail access; campsite spaces and reserved picnic areas are separate facilities.
Start at the southern end of day-use Lot 1 and join the main paved beach bike trail. Ride north to the state beach boundary at Beach Boulevard, then turn before the city-managed continuation and retrace the same path. Excludes Santa Ana River transfers, shore ramps and the Least Tern Natural Preserve.
The state gives this park section as 1.9 miles one way. Doubling that distance produces approximately 3.8 miles; parking approaches and where you turn can change your ride slightly. This guide does not describe the entire 8.5-mile combined state/city beach corridor.
The main bike path is separated from Pacific Coast Highway traffic. Watch for vehicles at parking and frontage-road interfaces, and slow for pedestrian access ramps, concessions and toilets. The maps and profiles do not establish an exhaustive driveway count. No highway road-riding transfer is part of this outing.
Ordinary bicycles and Class 1 pedal-assist e-bikes are permitted on the designated state trail. The currently linked district order prohibits Class 2, Class 3 and unclassified electric bikes; disability mobility devices have a separate policy. Follow posted limits and the district order: its human-powered/mobility-device provision sets ten mph maximum, reduced to five near pedestrians, specified access facilities or poor visibility. Yield to pedestrians. Dogs must remain leashed and off the sand and water. Rules on city-managed sections beyond this outing must be checked separately.
The park opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m.; inbound vehicle gates close at 9 p.m. Regular vehicle day-use $15; summer weekend/holiday $20; major-event rates may differ. Current cashless payment required; posted rates and capacity control entry. The annual July 4 restriction closes vehicle entry from 8 p.m. to midnight, while bicycle/foot entry remains subject to normal hours. For an ordinary ride, choose daylight and allow time to return before closing.
Restrooms and drinking-water facilities are listed along the state section, but working availability should be checked before riding. The state accessibility page retains a January 2025 upgrade closure for the north-end Lot 1 restroom and documents barriers at other usable toilets. Carry water and use the marked public facilities.
Sources checked October 11, 2026 UTC: park profile, state trail accessibility description, manager approach map and district posted orders, relevant trail-use pages 26–28. Flatness and accessibility are manager descriptions, not an independent survey. No GPX or precise parking pin has been created.
Editorial entry complete with these qualifications. Fresh posted-access and condition checks and integration into the separate national website remain before launch.
