up to 4 miles out and back, plus the parking approach. The developer described the original Midfield–Wenonah Road section as two miles in 2016. Set a two-mile outward limit and turn before Wenonah Road if it arrives first. This is a practical distance cap, not a promise of an official two-mile turnaround marker. The current regional inventory's 2.99-mile total and the developer's three-mile completed trail describe the larger corridor.
Approximate street-address point. Follow signs for the designated park or trail entrance.

Start: use the public trail parking identified by both the developer and the current regional inventory at Jefferson County Western Health Center, 631 Bessemer Super Highway, Birmingham, AL 35228. Follow the sidewalk to the trail entrance beside the Midfield Fire Department and High Ore Garden. Walk the bicycle through the parking and sidewalk approach. Observe reserved spaces and posted lot terms; this guide does not require riding along Bessemer Super Highway.
Course: take the paved former railroad alignment toward Wenonah Road. Stay on the signed main trail, rather than neighborhood access branches. At two miles, Wenonah Road, a closure or unsuitable surface—whichever comes first—turn and retrace. Do not continue onto the Venice Road/Red Mountain Park connector. Bridges are part of this raised rail corridor; slow on approaches and yield to people walking.
Surface and effort: paved. The developer describes the completed trail as mostly flat and off road; the newer regional description identifies a steep hill near Venice Road. Choosing the original section avoids that identified hill, but does not establish a surveyed maximum grade or guarantee every approach is level. Walk a ramp or turn earlier if it exceeds your comfort.
Traffic: the selected outing follows the greenway rather than a street route. Parking access and local trail entrances still involve vehicles. Turn before a public-road crossing, and do not invent a road detour around a barrier. Maintenance or emergency vehicles may have access.
Hours and cost: use daylight and follow posted trail and parking terms. The reviewed developer and regional sources do not specify a trail admission fee or operating hours. Health-center office hours do not establish trail hours or unrestricted overnight parking. E-bike class eligibility is not established here.
Access check: the developer's access descriptions and the current regional trail record were reviewed October 19, 2026. No selected-section closure notice appeared in those reviewed sources. This is a limited desktop review, not a current pavement, bridge or storm inspection.
