This is a shared park path with paved and gravel sections, rather than an entirely paved circuit. The mapped components allow ordinary pedal bicycles and carry an “Easy” difficulty rating. No measured maximum grade is available. Gravel can be loose or wet, and the park’s accessibility designation does not guarantee that every rider will find the surface comfortable.
Start and return
Use public Lot P6, identified on the city’s Rx map as 3219 Fort Missoula Road, Missoula, Montana. Follow the park’s signs to P6 rather than treating the headquarters doorway as the trail entrance. Walk your bicycle through the lot and along its short park-path approach toward the Fort Courts, then join the signed Rx circuit.
Follow the Rx route around the east park: past the courts and the southern recreation grounds, around the outside of the dog-park area, north along the boundary beside the school property, across the north side of the ballfields below Lot P5, and back down the east side to the courts. Follow the Rx circuit when other park paths branch away. Return to P6 by the same short approach, walking the bicycle through the lot.
The selected loop stays inside the east park and avoids the larger Fort Loop’s CCC Road and South Avenue roundabout crossings. The lot approach still has vehicle movement; watch for maintenance access, people leaving playing fields and other path users. Do not enter the school parcel, which the city map marks “No park access.” Stay outside the enclosed dog park and off playing fields, playgrounds and natural prairie trails.
Plan the visit
The park’s published hours are 6 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, subject to posted changes. Use this site-specific closing time; the city’s separate 24-hour commuter-trail rule does not establish overnight access here. The mapped loop is unlighted, so plan for daylight.
Ordinary trail admission and parking fees are not explicitly confirmed in the reviewed owner pages. The city’s fee of up to $20 per stall per day applies to organizations reserving exclusive use of park lots; it is not a published mandatory $20 charge for each rider. Tournament or event parking arrangements may affect P6. Check the lot’s signs on arrival.
Yield to walkers, announce passing and ride at a speed appropriate for a busy park. Dogs must be leashed on these paths. Restrooms and picnic facilities appear on the owner map, but seasonal service was not verified. Carry water rather than relying on a fountain.
Conditions and map
Research checked October 11, 2026: current city park and project pages, the linked Rx and full park maps, city trail attributes, and selected rule and fee provisions were reviewed. No specific Rx-loop closure was found in those reviewed sources. This is not an on-site inspection; check current signs and the park manager’s notices before riding, especially after wet weather, snowfall or during a tournament.
