A short paved park outing follows the city's 1.1-mile South Loop at Chaparral Park in Scottsdale. This is one complete circuit, with your walked parking approach extra. It stays south of Jackrabbit Road and does not include the one-mile North Loop, the full 2.1-mile park circuit or a longer Indian Bend Wash ride.
Start and route
Use the public parking area on the east side of the lake near the fishing pier and South Ramada, shown on the city's park map. The general park address is 5401 N. Hayden Road. Follow park parking signs; that address is not a surveyed stall location. The aquatic-center and northern ballfield lots are different starts.
Walk your bicycle through the parking area to the park path. Consult the city walking map: the blue South Loop runs around the southern park and lake. From the east-side lot, follow that course north with the lake to your left, passing the South Ramada, then the paths near the playground, Ramada 1 and park office. Stay on the mapped outer course rather than taking short lake-edge, playground or ramada spurs.
At the north end of this loop, follow the map's blue connection on the south side of Jackrabbit Road, then return south on the western park path beside Hayden Road. Walk any parking-drive interface and follow posted controls. Do not cross Jackrabbit Road into the North Loop or turn onto the vehicle roadway to extend the ride. Continue around the southern end near Chaparral Road, remaining on the park path, then follow the east side back to your starting lot. Walk the lot approach again.
The city map identifies a complete loop, while its separate GIS data divides nearby paths among park and Greenbelt records, including branches and some gaps in the reference lines. This guide uses the owner's mapped loop; it does not invent GIS connectors or provide a GPX. If construction, signs or an unclear junction prevent following that course, stop and use the park map rather than improvising a road connection.
Suitability and visit planning
The city's park features identify a Greenbelt multiuse path, and its guidelines permit ordinary pedal bikes on the multiuse system. Yield to walkers, announce passing, keep right and ride slowly around the playground and lakeside activity. Stay out of the fishing pier, playground, pool areas and off-leash dog area with your bicycle. Follow any posted exception.
The broad paved park setting offers a short outing, but grade has not been surveyed. Eighteen USGS elevation samples around the mapped lake-bank references span about 20 feet of ground elevation, suggesting modest general terrain relief. Those sparse samples use one-meter bare-earth data acquired in November 2021. They do not measure cumulative climbing, the steepest ramp, the actual path surface or accessibility throughout. Walk any incline or busy interface that feels uncomfortable.
Park hours are sunrise to 10:30 p.m. Choose daylight, bring water and avoid excessive heat. Do not enter flooded paths or underpasses. Restrooms appear on the park map and city asset inventory, but availability is not guaranteed. An ordinary parking or path-entry fee was not expressly confirmed. Pool, room, ramada and sports reservations have separate charges and schedules.
Scottsdale's guidance permits certain low-speed e-bikes on multiuse paths and restricts higher-speed e-bikes; unpaved trails and preserve routes have different rules. This outing is written for an ordinary pedal bicycle. Check current city guidance if using another device.
Sources and conditions
Checked October 12, 2026 UTC. Reviewed the current park profile and its linked park and walking maps, city path guidance, published path references, restroom assets, roadworks core records and eight notices specifically describing paths, sidewalks or crosswalks. Those notices identify restrictions elsewhere, but this was not a complete geographic overlay or on-site inspection of the loop. Recheck park notices, parking access and signs before visiting and before publication.
The September–mid-October Vista del Camino path closure concerns a different, southern Greenbelt section. It prevents treating the entire Greenbelt as an uninterrupted outing; it does not establish that this Chaparral loop is closed or unconditionally open.
