Lake Guntersville State Park, Alabama · About 0.6 mile out and back
This is a small paved outing between the state park lodge and Mabrey Overlook. It offers a way to enjoy the ridge without committing to the park’s rocky mountain-bike trails. The park calls Benny Bobo a multiuse, accessible trail; its hiking-and-biking directory lists it separately from trails marked hiking only.
Start: use an ordinary public trailhead parking space at the Lake Guntersville State Park Lodge, 1155 Lodge Drive, Guntersville. The park expressly lists the lodge and golf-course lots as trailhead parking. Leave the single accessible space at Mabrey Overlook for a visitor entitled to use it. Walk your bicycle through the lodge parking and entrance area to the signed Benny Bobo paved path. Follow posted parking and event restrictions.
Course: follow only the paved Benny Bobo path toward Mabrey Overlook at the golf-course entrance. At the overlook, stop clear of the path and retrace to the lodge. Turn sooner if the signed path is blocked, slippery or ends at an unsuitable vehicle interface. Walk any parking-entrance or driveway crossing. Do not continue onto the Golf Course Loop, an active golf cart path, the Lodge Trail or the park road to make a longer loop.
Distance: the manager gives Benny Bobo as 0.3 mile one way, making the return about 0.6 mile. Parking-area walking is additional. The park’s whole trail-network total is unrelated to this short course. The linked trail map is useful orientation, rather than a surveyed navigation track.
Surface and effort: the selected path is paved. The manager describes it as accessible and provides two benches, which supports choosing it for a short, less demanding outing. This does not establish a measured maximum slope or a perfectly level surface. The park is on a mountain ridge; stay on the named paved path and turn back if a slope is uncomfortable. Wet leaves, grit and damp pavement can affect braking and traction.
Sharing and vehicles: expect walkers, people using mobility devices and visitors stopping for the view. Ride slowly, yield space and announce a pass. Lodge and golf-course entrances bring vehicle activity close to the path. Keep the riding outing on Benny Bobo and walk the lot connections; no ride along a public park road is included.
Hours and cost: the park’s day-use page specifies sunrise to sunset. Use those limits and obey any shorter posted lot or trail closure. The reviewed page says some day-use areas have honor boxes or accept donations, without giving a separate Benny Bobo charge. Follow the terms posted at your entrance. Hotel, golf, zipline and campground charges are separate activities. E-bike class eligibility is not established by this guide.
Access check: the current manager pages still describe Benny Bobo, its parking and its day-use setting. No notice closing this selected short course appeared in the limited pages reviewed October 19, 2026. That is a desktop notice check, not a pavement inspection. A January 2026 guided-hike report describes a differently rounded outing; it is not substituted for the manager’s 0.3-mile one-way distance.
